The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is the world’s largest examining and teaching organization for classical ballet. It has over 15,500 members in 82 countries. As an awarding body, the RAD Examinations Board offers an internationally recognized portfolio of examinations and assessments. They are designed to motivate and encourage students of all ages and levels of ability, through a systematic measurement of progress and attainment as are those of the ISTD.

The Pre-School Dance Curriculum develops basic movement skills, musical awareness, expression and creativity. Themed classes encourage class participation, focus and confidence that prepare students for entry to the Pre-Primary levels. This is appropriate for students between the ages of 2 ½ and 5 years.

Graded Syllabi,Grades 1 — 8 Award, provide a broad practical dance education, progressively developing the technical, musical and performance skills of the student. They incorporate Classical Ballet, Free Movement and Character. Classical ballet is the core of the syllabus. Free Movement incorporates movements in common with dance genres such as Natural Movement, Contemporary and Classical Greek. Character is the theatrical presentation of national dance using ethnic dance and music, which has been freely adapted for the theatre. These are appropriate for students from the age of 6 and up, and can provide challenging and rewarding training to the end of high school.

The Vocational Graded Syllabus is both the continuation of classical ballet training, and a stand alone full training regime, commencing from the age of approximately 9 to 12 years. At the earliest level, pointe work is introduced for the first time, and each syllabus has been designed to give the necessary training to students wishing to study seriously, with a possible view to following a career in dance, or dance related subjects. Unlike Graded examinations, all 6 Vocational level examinations must be taken in consecutive order.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is the other one of the world’s leading dance examinations board. It has 7,500+ members in more than 75 countries around the world and for more than 100 years they have provided training for dance teachers and examiners, developed new techniques and spread the joy of dance. Our Modern, Jazz and Tap classes are based on their syllabi. We also incorporate their Imperial Ballet and Cecchetti Ballet syllabi into our Level classes as supplementary work.
